Preparing your home <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Details of Accommodation Requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unrelated adults and children over 10 of different sexes cannot share rooms.<\/li><li>A bathroom with a working lock on the door is required.<\/li><li>Access to a kitchen is required. You do not have to provide meals.<\/li><li>Permission from your landlord or housing association if you are in rented accommodation is required.<\/li><li>Central heating is required (no plug in radiators).<\/li><li>A gas safe certificate may be required for your boiler, but as long as your boiler has been serviced in the last 12 months this should suffice.<\/li><li>Any room with a solid fuel heater will need a carbon monoxide detector.<\/li><li>Each floor will need a fire alarm.<\/li><li>Fire extinguishers are not required.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A home visit from the Council is required. This will be triggered when the visas are approved. North Northamptonshire Council has access to the Home Office database and will retrieve your information from there and make contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"preparing-yourself\" style=\"background-color:#fff310\"><strong>7. Preparing yourself <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DBS Checks&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A DBS check is required for every adult living in your home or staying overnight (including students returning from university) if you are sponsoring children under 18 you will need \u2018enhanced\u2019 DBS checks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for a DBS check you will need your birth certificate, passport and\/or driving licence (2 of the 3) and 2 utility bills or bank statements.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is unlikely your existing DBS certificate will be adequate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Northamptonshire Council will arrange DBS checks for you and they will pay for them.&nbsp; You will receive two emails, follow the link and log in using the username and password they give you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opora have produced <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/621f4653409a9765166e44d2\/t\/623e00bd3228961caa4c79e0\/1648230589784\/Before+the+arrival.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">a guide to help you prepare<\/a> for your new arrivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"journey\" style=\"background-color:#fff310\"><strong>8. Journey and Arrival in the UK <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrange transport to your house (host\u2019s home)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stenaline.com\/media\/stories\/offering-free-transport-to-support-the-ukrainian-people\/\">Stenaline Ferries<\/a> are still offering free travel for Ukrainians fleeing the war and support to charities helping them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurostar.com\/uk-en\/travel-info\/service-information\/eurostar-travel-updates\">Eurostar<\/a> is offering free travel for Ukrainians fleeing the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Opora\u2019 flights are no longer available at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are welcome desks at St Pancras and major airports including Luton, Birmingham and Heathrow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalrail.co.uk\/ukraine\">National Rail<\/a> also offers free one off train travel within the UK for newly arrived refugees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collect your guests from the arrival point if possible, particularly if they don\u2019t speak or read English.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Language&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interpreters may be available to support sponsors meeting new arrivals; request help on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/990313694937979\" target=\"_blank\">Wellingborough Ukrainian guests and sponsors | Facebook<\/a> group, including signs to hold up at the arrival point which can be written in Ukrainian for you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon Kindle book \u2013 \u2018Ukrainian, one day at a time: Language learning and advice for adults, plus phrasebook for use with children\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Install the \u2018Say Hi\u2019 translation app on your phone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.lonelyplanet.com\/pages\/ukrainian-phrasebook-support\">Free phrasebook<\/a> from Lonely Planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"arrival\" style=\"background-color:#fff310\"><strong>9. Arrival at sponsor\u2019s home (first week with hosts) <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prepare a \u2018welcome pack\u2019&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essential toiletries and little luxuries if you can. Glamis Hall can help assemble welcome packs at minimal costs (often 10% of retail, products may vary)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contents could include soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, face cloths, hairbrush, sanitary towels, children\u2019s toothpaste and brushes, hand towels, shampoo, children\u2019s shampoo, deodorant, wash bag, shower gel, deodorant. If you are experiencing this then you might want to contact local schools directly and find out if there are available places.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NB \u2013 Please see a note below about the Government\u2019s plans to Ukrainian children accessing schools (<a href=\"#appendix-1\">Appendix 1<\/a>)<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability<\/strong> (SEND)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most schools and colleges are expected to identify and meet the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities. Your local council will be able to offer more support and information&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Temporary Schooling Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Premises can be made available (at Glamis Hall, Victoria Centre and other community halls) for Ukrainian teachers and parents to set up temporary \u2018home schooling\u2019 and play sessions for children. Join the Facebook group \u2018<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/990313694937979\" target=\"_blank\">Wellingborough Ukrainian guests and sponsors<\/a>\u2019 as plans are being made for temporary schooling and other lessons (English and Ukrainian) which will be announced there.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arranging COVID Vaccinations&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS are providing all COVID jabs to refugees free of charge, same as usual for UK residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once registered with a GP you can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/coronavirus-covid-19\/coronavirus-vaccination\/book-coronavirus-vaccination\/\">NHS booking service<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If not registered yet with a GP, you can go to one of the many COVID 19 vaccine walk in centres &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/coronavirus-covid-19\/coronavirus-vaccination\/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site\/\">Find a centre near you<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biometric Residence Permits (BRP)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is proof of evidence of a refugee\u2019s right to live, work and study in the UK. This can be used as proof of identity when opening a bank account or renting a property. The electronic chip holds information such as name, date of birth and place of birth. It will also have a photograph, fingerprints, and a person\u2019s immigration status. Ukrainian Refugees will need to access one of these as soon as they arrive in the UK.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apply.visas-immigration.service.gov.uk\/product\/ukraine-scheme-brp?_ga=2.108260033.292537543.1650631756-190708653.1648229924\" target=\"_blank\">online form<\/a> to help your guests apply to extend their visa to up to 3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once registered, guests will then need to visit a designated centre to finalise the BRP application.&nbsp; Lifts can be provided to help families get to these centres if sponsors are not available.&nbsp; Please contact Glamis Hall (ask for Mila) on 01933 677326&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accessing the \u00a3200 cash from North Northamptonshire Council&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Northamptonshire Council is passing these payments to guests using prepaid vouchers, these will be emailed to you. You will need to print these off. They can be redeemed at local shops that operate \u2018Pay-Point\u2019 scheme, but only at Pay Point stores operate the \u2018cash out\u2019 system. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/consumer.uat.paypoint.com\/cashout?_ga=2.92270355.800244689.1650624055-578946232.1650535017\" target=\"_blank\">Check your local stores.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NB \u2013 This system has not been working well and NNC are working to change it to a method people can access via the Post Office.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Registering for a National Insurance Number&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To work in the UK guests will need a National Insurance Number (NINO). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/apply-national-insurance-number\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apply for a NINO here<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Applying for Universal Credit&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please help people to apply straightaway, as it can take many weeks to process.&nbsp; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/apply-universal-credit\" target=\"_blank\">Apply for Universal Credit here<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NB \u2013 Please not guest will not need to do the habitual residency test.&nbsp; They are likely to be called in by the Job Centre once their application is processed \u2013 Universal Credit applications need to be done online<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Note<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; Please have a go at supporting your guests through these registrations yourself.&nbsp; If you have any problems, you can contact Bogdan at Victoria Centre and he will do his best to advise and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"settling\" style=\"background-color:#fff310\"><strong>11. Settling in to the area and community<\/strong> (<strong>the first few weeks<\/strong>)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Integration phase 1<strong> <\/strong>&#8211;<strong> <\/strong>During this phase guests will start to access services in the community:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clothing<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Free second hand clothing is available at Glamis Hall.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk\">Wellingborough Eco Group<\/a> are providing this clothing, plus some children\u2019s books and toys at their Swap Shop at Glamis Hall in the Community room every Tuesday afternoon from 2-6pm.
